I think Im in love with the new G35. 298hp w/6-speed manual. Yeah!!
I really dig the new small styling cues too. Its the closest to a BMW (rear-drive, 50/50 weight). Reading that it handles just like one. Best of all, it can be had for $32k, real nicely equipped. What do you all think? Mr. E, whats your take?

It's a great car, I really like that they gave the Sedan 298hp like the Coupe (previously it was 280hp for the Coupe and 260hp for the Sedan). If you compare this car to a 330i, the G35 Sedan boasts significantly more horsepower and costs significantly less money. Handling and braking should be pretty similar - 2005 G's got suspension upgrades. Pre-2005 models, I'd give the nod to the BMW, but now it's too close to call. The new G35 interior looks nicer and more refined. Just keep in mind that since the car is SO much cheaper than a 330i, Infiniti cut costs in a lot of places. You get what you pay for with the BMW 330i, but I think most people will find it hard to justify getting a 330i over a G35 Sedan because of the price difference and the G35's horsepower advantage, especially considering people don't feel the need for a car that is ALL OUT expensive (referring to the BMW) for an "entry-level" luxury sedan.

I think the E90 base price will be slightly higher than the E46 too. I wonder what the 0-60 would be for a 3,500lbs, 298hp, 6M, Rear-Drive vehicle. I agree that it WILL be hard to justify ~+$6k for a similarly equipped BMW.

Other than a few minor cheap parts, Infiniti cars definitely get a thumbs up from me in terms of performance, handling, and design.

Sheets of Plastic vs. Sheets of Metal and Carbon Fiber composites.

Better paint job on the BMW (heavier paint and more coats).

Lack of plastics overall in the BMW.

The parts in the BMW are of better quality from more expensive and exclusive sources, and not as "assembly line driven" as their Asian counterparts.

We have to keep in mind were these designs started from in the first place, Europe, not Asia.

Every bmw i've been in had tons of plastic - though not cheap plastic like you'd find on other cars. I wouldnt say paints are any better, there ARE chances the paints are from the same manufacturer, and the new bmw's have just as much plastic body pieces as their japanese counterparts. But they are better built, and I'd much rather be driving an american or european car than a japanese car (at least - a "typical" version of each kind). I also agree that parts are better - at least, in my experiences.

Excellent things to point out, I completely agree.

Yeah, BMW has lots of plastics too, but they're higher quality plastics. Least they feel that way. Actually, all the Germans have higher quality plastics, although Mercedes dropped their quality down recently. Porsche has some pretty crappy plastic too now that I think about it, but the new cars are supposed to be better.

Still, I'd MUCH rather drive a Japanese car than an American car. Sheet metal in an American car is good, but the plastic parts are utter crap. Recently rented a car and all those new American cars feel so freaking cheap. Well, they are cheap just from a design standpoint too. We ended up with a Dodge Caravan and how they make the sliding door is incredibly jury rigged. If you own one, take a look at the bottom and imagine if the glue (yes, glue!) there starts losing effectiveness and that stupid plastic rail thingy comes loose. Happened on our car.

I was deciding between a 03 330i ZHP and 05 G35 sedan and finally went with the 330.
6 speed for G35 is not out until late Jan in Canada which is not a real issue for me. But I test drove a 04 G35c with 6 speed and didn't like the shifting feel that much. (overall the car is great) The sales told me 05 has big improvement on shifting feel comparing to 04 but you never know until you try it out. Beside the interior of the G is rather cheap, many G owners feel that way as well. the interior of the 330 has no excitement but at least it's clean and not cheap. Try sit into a G35 and go over to other infiniti (Q, M, or even I) then you can tell the difference.

Just went to the dealership. They were fresh out of 05 G35. Sat in a 04 and yes, a lot of plastic. I can see where they crunch to keep it thousands less than competion. Also, the FM platform it sits in is shared by two other Infinitis: the FXs and one other, I think Ms. This also keeps prices down. I hope that the interior of the 05 will be improved because I was not to impressed. Still excited to see it. The above picture I posted looks hot, and Im sure it will look even better in person. By the way, the FXs are kool too.

the one factor that i think will justify this to a lot of customers will be three letters: BMW...just the fact that it is a BMW seems to attract people, but you are correct, that is a really nice car

That is definitely a good point. People like having the BMW roundel on their hood, but at the same time, I see SO MANY G35 Sedans running around. They are the new 3-series in my area.

That would be one of the best reasons as to why we will see new E90s all over the place.
