This was a rare sighting I had to share with this board. This car was for use by a Saudi prince in Cancun at the hotel I was at. He never used it in the 4 days I was there, so I never heard it growl. For everyone who doesn't already know it is a Mercedes SLR McClaren, like 626HP, $500K+, look it up on the web for all the stats. I thought it was pretty sweet.

Well it’s nice to know that the Saudis aren't running out of money.

Anybody see the TopGear review on this- As quoted from Mr. Clarkson; "The people from McLaren said, "Sounds like a Spitfire", and the people from Mercedes said, "Nien Nien Nien, sounds like a Messerschmitt."

I've been trying to figure out what the cutout is for on the trunk lid? Maybe it is a spoiler that raises at high speed. After all the thing can go well over 200 MPH....

Eric, thats exactly what it is. It's also used as an airbrake.

Quote from MSN:
The SLR McLaren is powered by a 617-horsepower supercharged 5.5-liter Mercedes-AMG V8 combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission and AMG Speedshift with Comfort, Sport, and Manual programs. The SLR McLaren body is carbon fiber composition construction and the brakes are carbon fiber ceramic discs with 8-piston caliper at the front and 4-piston calipers at the rear. Under hard braking above 59 mph, the adaptive rear spoiler acts as an airbrake, popping up at a 65-degree angle for increased downforce and improved stability.

Actually it is for creating a downforce when braking. The terrible Chrysler Crossfire has one but it takes an hour and half for it to go from 0 to 60, and is based on the SLK with a V6 - why do you need a spoiler on a slow car?

based on the "curb rash" the car had to have been moved between the first and the last picture. also based on the surroundings (pillar, crack in pavement) looks like its up a bit further in the last few pics.

You said he didn't drive it, are those all same day pictures? Maybe he's a night rider.

No those pictures were taken on different days. The last three were taken two days later than the first ones. And you are so right, the car is in a different place!!!

Saw at the auto show this year. The performance is impressive, but I don't care for its looks. I think it's nasty...and if I were gonna spend that kind of money, I'd go with the Carrera GT any day...

I would go with the Carrera GT as well, but the SLR is an amazing machine. I think it is a bit overpriced and I HATE the autotragic tranny. I see it at my local Mercedes dealership.
