A little bit of History
The below is a
Tyrrell P34 - 1st and last 6 wheel in F-1. It was designed by Derek Gardener in 1975. Williams even broke the best lap record with this Tyrrell P34 in 1982 in F-1. FIA then added the 4-Wheel requirement.
Because of the low profile and the aerodynamic shape of the car, 4 10-inch wheels were used as front wheels. This greatly reduced the air drag and increased the tires touching ground surface area. Therefore, better handling.
