Where is my California warmth that I love? Had an early 7:30am appt this morning in North Hollywood. I'm drivng on the freeway, and I hear this Bing, bing and my on board display is flashing. ICE Warning. It was 35F. Never, in my CA life have I seen an ice warning on any car that I have owned. 35F....that is absolutley insane for So. CA.

Funny to see people bustiling around with down jackets, scarves, wool hats, gloves...whilst wearing their rubber thong shoes. Gotta love CA [;)]

Yeah, tell me about it, 25 at home today. I had a bucket full of water on my patio and it froze into a solid block. I also have about 15 plants that I don’t think are going to make it because they have turned black. We are at something like 3-4 hours each night below freezing here, this is very strange.

These are by my house. Way too cold.

Good, you Californians deserve it. Now you know how we feel during the winter, every single day, for more than 6 months straight.
Today is actually a warm day in NJ. 58 degrees F, but I bet it feels far colder because as I'm typing this post, it has been windy as hell all day so far....29mph winds. [:(]

I don't mind the cold, but I do mind it when it's windy.....the wind feels like ice hitting you in the face !!!

Screw this, I'm moving to Florida. Windows down and summer tires all year round...yeah baby !!

That's not too surprising. Vegas is known to be cold. Every winter it's crazy cold. I went golfing in the winter there once and there was ice on the greens.

the LA area normally doesn't get that cold though. Actually, we shouldn't really get lower than 40 degrees, but I think it dropped into the 20's last nite in some areas. That's insanely cold for LA. Today isn't too bad, but it's hilarious seeing my coworkers wearing puffy ski jackets, thick gloves, and scarves INDOORS! Thankg goodness my office has its own thermostat. [:D]

It's very windy here too!! I'm in williamsport pa (aka armpit of pennsylvania!!). We're right under the appalacian mountains so we get all weird kinds of weather patterns.

I'm with you... cold isn't bad, but when its windy it sucks!!

Were any of them wearing"Puffy Shirts"?
Unfortunately, there's really no one here that I'd want to be wearing a "puffy shirt." Ok, maybe just one. Guess that's good tho. Less distractions at work? Trying to be positive here.

Really? I wouldn't think wind could cancel a class unless there's a tornado or hurricane around.

ya...yesterday i was going to school and the beep went off for the degrees, so i look down to see the temperature monitor and it stays under 37 for over a 15 mile drive....it was freezing and the wind has been crazy here (live within eye view of the ocean, and with santa ana winds, wind in both directions)!

Yeah, it was mad random. Professor called my phone to tell me my paper grade (got a 100 [bmwdance]) and to say that class was cancelled for today because she "didn't want to make kids come to class with this wind". Naturally, I'm not complaining. [;)]

As far as Germany goes..............we have had a very mild winter (so far) average has been about 37-39 F up to about 45 on some days. This usually means that it will be cold as hell in January- March.

No offense to your professor, but that is one lazy a$$ professor. The wind? Honestly. And I'd be a little ticked off; it's end of semester; I hate it when professors cancel class during the end of the semester. I can understand your glee, but you got to admit that "wind" is a pretty dumb reason to cancel class. Lol. whatever. What University / College do you attend?

The west in general has been colder than usual. We run an average 37-57 Dec-Jan. with some morning light freeze now and again.

The hard freeze, 25-30 for 3 or more hours, is unusual and damaging. I cut my seriously damaged plants back to sticks thinking this may help save them. I hate the pure desert plants so I use some California variations and I think I lost about half of the new ones that should have survived the normal cold here.

yea even down here at UCSD it has been freezing compared to normal (40-50 degrees during the day), or so I'm told. I agree that a professor cancelling class is weak and is really hurting the students since it is so close to finals. I would be pissed if mine were canceled at this time with finals next week. [?|]

Rofl, I was thinking the same thing. Honestly, I think there was some other reason class was cancelled, but like I said, I am not complaining at all. Almost the end of the semester and I really NEED every break I can get right now. I think she was referring to the students who are on-campus and have to walk to classes. Either way, I was happy as shit about it and I can't wait for this semester to end.

Did I ever state that college is complete bullshit and awfully one-sided? College teaches you shit that you don't need in the real world, but at the same time, you need the degree to get a job, a job that colllege never helped you learn how to perform. Weird system, ain't it??
