The batteries in the keyless entry remotes died for our 1999 pontiac montana. I replaced the batteries, and on the inside of the remote casing it says "press lock+unlock for 7 seconds to reset" well I did that, and nothing happened.

The remotes haven't been used for a good year. Does anyone know the procedure to program it myself? I know my parents won't let the dealer touch the car, unless the service manager is tied up in the back [shake]

That's all you have to do - just hold down the lock and unlock buttons together for 7 seconds within very close range of the van. This has always worked with every GM car I've dealt with. Sometimes you need to program both remotes one right after the other in order for both remotes to work.

If that's not working, it sounds like either the remotes or the keyless control system in the van are bad (had that experience once with a brand new Saturn - the keyless computer in the car crapped out).
