Took the time out yesterday to polish my car (the red 318is) only to have it promptly rain today - just my luck.

Luckily though, I managed to get a few priceless pics of her with my mates black 318is. Aren't they just gorgeous! [wiggle] Words just don't express my love.

Not bad for a fifteen year-old car hey [pray]

Oh the joy! [rofl]

Looks beautiful. Made me sad about my ol wrecked e30 again.

Even the windshield wipers go the wrong way! haha its so strange to look at. I guess i haven't seen many RHD cars... Messing with my head!!!

The car looks loved though Pete!

Hey fellas,

Thanks so much for the nice comments. It really makes it all worthwhile! Usually I get lambasted by lots of people for being OCD when it comes to the car...and they're probably right. I was washing the engine the other day and it occurred to me then that perhaps I do take it a little far sometimes! But it's all good. Even though it's 'only' a 318is, I just love this car to bits. The only gripe I have is with the seats; they're truly horrible.

Mike - Yeah it would look weird for you guys with the wheel on the right, but the feeling is mutual! Actually, on my dad's E38, the windscreen wipers still operate as though the car was LHD. Quite bizarre.

Skandalous - The sticker on the rear-window is actually a footy-club one. I barrack for Collingwood in the AFL and we're always referred to as being totally one-eyed supporters. So the sticker is a bit of an 'up yours' to all the other supporters!

Thanks again for the replies boys. There's just so much to be gained from looking after your car I reckon. In 4 months I'll do it all over again [hihi]

Cheers.

BTW, I'm only the second owner of this car!

Look fabulous! Good Job!

The weather is driving me crazy these days in Philadelphia. 3 days of heat wave followed by down pouring of water! I washed mine last Saturday after seeing Big D's pic, and my conclusion is -- All of those motoring ideas in the 2004 Mini Cooper Convertible Motoring Brochure are so weird, "weirder than me", but at least one of them is right.

Here is #8:
Let's always keep a tooth-pick in the glove box.

Although your MINI Convertible can travel considerably faster than an insect, it doesn't mean you'll be able to avoid all contact with them. Especially in your grill. And if your lucky, in your teeth.

Guys pick one up next time you are in for service.

Man those cars are CLEAN!!!!!!!

How much do those headlights sell for around there (like on ebay or whatever)?? We got crappy american-spec lights here [:(] BTW you planning on doing anything with the suspension? That thing would look amazing if it were lowered a little.

Yeah Eric, I'm not too sure how much those headlights sell for around here as I've never seen them for sale anywhere! Luckily though, our E30's came with the updated ellipsoids and they work quite well. Look good too.

In terms of the suspension, I've never really considered doing anything with it. I'd love to but I'm not exactly sure where to start and what sort of geometery I should be looking at. I do agree that my car would look awesome if it were lowered a little and had slightly bigger alloys (16's would look about right I think). My mate's car (the black one) has 17's which are rather large but they do look pretty cool.

Other than that, I'm a bit of a stickler for standard parts and settings (so is my mechanic) but I would definitely consider some suspension work, foglights, 16" basketweave alloys, E30 M3 seats, and some ATE powerdisc rotors and ATE pads, braided steel brake lines... It could go on and on. I can only dream, I guess...

Thanks for the response! Aint E30's just the bomb? [hihi]

Oh man, an e30 318is with maybe koni adjustable shocks, H&R Springs, and maybe some kind of control arm bushing upgrades... EASILY out handle an e30 m3 with a new stock suspension.

Hey chesty maybe u should take a hint from your commo and get a decent set of rims for that e30! BMW stock parts just dont cut it compared to some of the after market parts available, especially compared to Benz stockparts!!!! What would you know about true German engineering anyway!

Ive been reading ur posts on e34 M5s and compared to Benz's of that era you are obviously too "one eyed" to appreciate true motoring class of that era like the AMG E55!!

They may be clean but not up to scratch... I dont mean to offend.

Hey maybe you should just take it easy bud.

BTW, the E55 wasn't around when the E34 M5 was in its heyday so perhaps you should consider the facts before you say things like this. And there is no doubt that, as a pure drivers tool, any M5 is virtually unchallenged by any other big saloons.

Just another typical South Australian.

Hey Pete...looking sweeeet!

Dont worry about our south australian cousins, they dont tend to know very much, being isolated in a desolate, boring place where the most exciting thing that occurs on any given day is the chance viewing of two cars within 10km of each other. Or perhaps an Excel with a 2 inch exhaust pipe.

I mean seriously...the E55 has a boot load of torque...no one can deny that, but torque alone doesnt make a drivers car. Anyone who knows cars understands that over the last decade or so, Mercedes has taken all the fun and character out of their cars. A bore to drive. With the exception of the SLR of course...but thats an exception.

Most decent car reviews indicate just that as well. Even Top Gear are saying it. They send them to sleep. [yawn]. Fast but no character. Like a souped up luxury Lada.

BMW are drivers cars - thats not just a cliche...any hard core driver can tell you its true, and its certainly more true than saying the same about a Merc. I was bought up surrounded by Mercs and sure they have some good sides, but personality, character and being fun to drive arent any of them!

Hey, picked up the new car btw. Havent modded it yet. Sounds different - louder. Grips well. Running it in very hard.

Rich

Yo Rich. Nice to see you've joined the board! Yeah I do feel for those SA guys but they say some funny things don't they.

The Turbo is lookin' sweet as I must say. What's it putting out at the moment? Bummer you couldn't get the Tornado ute! That thing would actually be a deathtrap.

The pics look awesome man.
