I don't think price matters, since it's so ugly. And I bet this guy lacks a Low Range, just like the X5....
Howcome BMW doesn't just give the X5 Low Range gearing??

I think they're trying to compete with the Freelander and whatever else is in the mini-suv segment.

how many peeps would take their bimmer off roadign anyway? that's why there no low range. majority of the suv owners don't take em off road anyway.

but suvs based on a car plat has been selling like hotcakes, so bmw is trying to get into the lucrative suv market. their profit margins are way better than normal sedans.

I had a chance to see this last week. I was shocked.[ohcrap] I thought it was a Pontiac at first. No kidding, I had to take a second and third look to determine it was the BMW. Any average person that has a general concept of car types would without question think it is a Pontiac at first.

I agree, big profit in SUV's. However, this one I would not buy. Not at $46k. I have an Expedition with lots of power with tow package, AWD, and paid $36k. I think people buy small SUV's for price, it's what they can afford in the SUV market. There is so much competition in the $40's and so many products that I am not sure this is a good move.

BMW is without question my favorite car. But just for a second consider the Acura MDX. At 265 HP, top rollover resistance rating, highest value retention in any class 01-02, and towing capacity for a sizable boat. This is scary competition for the X3 at a price of $45ish.

BMW's are great, but I think others win out in this catagory.

All I can say is drive it and see how it handles and feels. If it is anything like the X5 is to other SUVs in its calss then it is gonna handle better than any of the competition HANDS DOWN. Enough said.

I am sure you are correct. But the Acura is impressive in this area as well and has lots more room. The X3 has almost no rear storage room. I guess the one thing to consider is that most people do not use an SUV for anything more than a car type function. So towing and power and so on does not matter. Mine is used more as a truck with extra seating, a car could never take its place, nor could the X3. But for most people, the SUV is a city, never tow anything, family car??? [???1]
