It's a 'taste' thing, Americans prefer dual-duals, or just dual rounds. Big rounds, or squares are usually considered 'rice'. However Rounds and squares are largely a Euro mod when on bimmers, here they are usually found only on Asian cars. Your side of the pond it's not such a rare site as here.

Personally, I like to see the gains and hear it before I declare it anything, even if I don't exactly like how it looks either. Who makes it, and is it just a muffler bolted on or a full cat-back run system?

Keep posting pics, I like watching conversions, gives me ideas for when this car is no longer my DD. [driving2]

its a stainless steel backbox (muffler) made by magnex its 3" round and has been modified as it was a universal fit the 320 comes with a single almost round tail pipe so i thought i would keep it along those lines

I have the 2003 540 sport with the single large round exhaust on the left side(as you view from rear) Its ok but I would prefer a dual exhaust with 1 on each side.

just out of curiosity, what do you think of the single large round exhaust on the 2003 540?

PS Im also located in Atlanta, do you attend or know of any local meets?

I think single round exhausts look obnoxus. They never FIT the car, there is like half of the muffler hanging from under the car that you can see on the sides, and the tip never 'fills' the cutout for an exhaust.

This is just my personal taste though. They look bad, typically sound bad, and don't add any performance. If you want an exhaust, look into eisenmann [hihi]

i think we will have to agree to disagree that tailpipe was picked to fill the hole in the lower bumper with half inch all the way around and it sounds awsome with the 6 cylinder banging through it and yes it is loud and prehaps antisocial but driving hard on the country roads is a great sound track to listen to as for performance iwouldnt like to say but at the time the o.e box had had it and it was cheaper and made more sense to buy a stainless one

I dunno, maybe it sounds fine. But I produce farts that are more finely tuned than any ricer exhaust I've heard in person. They could be pepboys exhausts though.
