I respect you guys that like the new stuff, but that's just not my cup of tea. New BMWs do not look classy to me anymore, they have more of a sporty look, which is fine for the Z4 but the 7 is a different matter. I am firmly sticking to my position that the E46 was the last 'real' classic BMW. I'm not going to argue with anyone, that is just my opinion.

And to those of you that say I'm not a real BMW enthusiast because I don't like the new stuff, well fine be like that.
Yeah I agree, all the new models lost it's class. I mean yeah, it still has that slight BMW flavor in them, but the feel and look of class is just gone. They're starting to look more mainstream. It seems that the designers feel that as long as they keep the kidney grille it's still a Bimmer...

...but eh, I contest to that...

...I don't know.. that's just my two cents. Don't kill me for this... haha...[thumb]

Ahhh this whole conversation has been going on without me! I havent been checking the showroom forum in a while.

I dont care for the new styling but this is causing a real dilema to me. I am a cutting edge person, I always have the newst gadgets. While I love the e46 and If I buy used I can afford a convertable its not going to be the newest BMW on the road. The pics that Sexualwasabi of the convert dont look that bad but I wont be able to afford a 2005 4 series convert.

I now will have a mission, I will try every appealing new or used cars that cost around $30k. While the BMW is nice, how about a 2000 corvette or a ... whisper...Mercdes. You might be supprised to find out what $30k can buy you.

That's what my first thoughts were too. I guess it didn't click in my head when I read this article back in April - probably cos I didn't own my E30 then - but it seems to have a slight Bangle influence in the amber turn indicators, but the profile of it - in the smaller pics - look like they keps the existing shape of the current 3-Se.
I like all the new BMW styles, but I still like your E30 also. Like you said, timeless.[thumb]

Haha, I hear ya. I mean, I'm not a fan of the new designs. I like the older ones, but Bangle's designs do grow on me. In pictures the cars look vastly different than they do in person. When you're standing next to the newer BM's or driving by one, the designs seem to make a little bit more sense. The new 5 works well. I'm just not sure about the 3 yet.

Hmm... I'm agreeing with most of the posts I've seen so far, but I have to admit, that the 7 finally 'grew' on me (especially after a few rides in one!) and the new 5 is pretty nice (In ANYTHING but that ugly dark gray!). The new 6 is sporty, something for aged 8 owners to get into (Except the back end reminds me of a lumpy Lexus!) :(

That new 3/4 series E90 model.. I dunno about.. I don't own my BMW totally on looks, the main reasons are the performance and superior handling. BUT I won't own another 3 if it looks like that.. Maybe a new 5 or M3 if they don't monkey with it too much.

Anyone hitting these boards actually own one of the new 5's or 6's? I'd like to see some pics of a few that aren't OEM, that have been 'bling bling'ed a little bit..

I'm kind of iffy on the new designs myself but will probably get the e90 anyway. I think the engine upgrade will be worth it whatever it is. I was hoping it'd come out this year but it looks like it'll come out in 2005. Is that what everyone else understands? Thanks.

I sortof like the look of the new convertible -- still not as nice looking as the 2004 330Cic though. Looks like that model year will retain its value quite well in light of what's in the product pipeline. One thing I thought strange about the spy shots in the magazine though; in one of the pictures (top left I think) the coupe appears to have no visible "B" pillar. However, in the larger image on the right (the one where you can see the driver) there are clearly "B" pillars... you can even tell there's a seatbelt assembly attached to the "B" pillar in that pic.

I think what this tells me is that these aren't truely spy shots, but, rather, mock-ups by the magazine gleaned from spy images. I guess we won't know for sure until 2006 when these new coupes and convertibles become available.

It's all photoshop, and all the folks liking(I do, well sorta), or groaning about it based on the few looks we've seen online, or have been ripped out of magazines, is just silly..(Including me - I think it looks ok so far, but what do I know, I've seen a dozen different shots of it, from photoshopped 6 and 5's, to actual spy shots of the 3..), Sounds like a pack of middle and high schooler's in here, the few folks that actually expressed *what* it was they didn't like all came up with the same 2-3 things: lights, the Z4 sidefin deal, and the somewhat lumpy rear end. Cosmetic things that change every year as the cars progress models can be easily changed with a aftermarket kit. (I mean, this forum is about BMW's and what you can DO to them, right??)

Lets not forget what's under the *skin*. If you bought your car based on it's skin and the blue and white propellers, then you're a badge lover anyhow, which isn't *bad*, you're just missing the point of what BMW is about in the first place..

How quickly people scream 'rice' or 'ricer', it's simply amazing.. Lets see you actually say that to the face of one single person who's car doesn't meet your 'strict' guidelines for how a car should look, or be.. Again, high school attitude.. Having an opinion is great, but base it on something(like facts?), other than a few photoshopped pics.

If you still hate it (the new 3 or 4, or even 1 and 2 models) after it comes out late 2005/early 2006, and you've actually test driven one, and walked the lot to look at them, and you post a message saying so. Then good, I would consider that real input, a real opinion from someone who checked it out. All this hoopla so far is more like hysteria.. Packa teenage girls at the movies or something (No disrespect to the ladies of BMWboard, but I think you know what I mean..).

But just my .02 with a few opinions, a few facts, and no 'ricer' hysteria..

I think it looks great and it will look even better when it hits the dealerships!

For those of you who don't enjoy the new models, just don't buy BMW...its that simple...

There are plenty of other german brand out there to please your eyes and if you don't like any of those either, then well there's always toyota :)

I like the 5, LOVE the 7, love the z4...I can't wait for the future.

P.S. - the upcoming M4 LOOKS HOT!!!
