Okaaayyyy now I guess I can get my "M" badge without feeling guilty. Since in Europe my car would be called E39 M-Facelift.......but most Americans dont know anything about that..they would just flame for even having an "M" symbol on the trunk...sigh...I still love my american brothers(and the occasional sister)though!!!
Ahhh, some of us Americans know about the Euro cars, and aren't so quick (and judgemental) to bash you for simply putting a badge on your ride. You'll find alot more //M bashing going on at E46fanatics (They get a little too serious there..), but here you're pretty safe..

I recall one post about this, a guy was saying that "If you actually turned your car into a //M by changing out the engine, tranny, interior, suspension etc, all the 'real' //M components, then you 'earned' the right to badge it //M".

I say to that.. If I spent that sorta money on my car, to hell with //M badges, I'd put my own damn initials on the back of the car! [:D]

Well the funny thing is my initials are "MM"[rofl]
And if you were going to change out all the aforementioned parts your car would be a M3 or M5 not just an M. Like I have said before in other threads:
AC Schnitzer is one of the most if not the most famous tuner of BMW cars. To have a ACS hood badge or trunk badge you DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE ANYTHING DONE TO THE ENGINE!
As long as you have the ACS interior, Rims, Muffler, Spoiler kit....it becomes an ACS 3series or 5series. The difference is when it is called an S5 or S3...that is what separates a regular ACS from an ACS S5 or S3.
The same would seem to be logical for BMW "M" autos...what would make them different?
