I don't know what to say that is awesome, quality time with yor dad and the guts to paint your own car, awesome. I have done a lot of things to cars and trucks. We took an old 85 2 wheel drive 4 door Chevy truck and converted it to 4 wheel drive by using a donor suburban. but I still probably wouldn't have the guts to paint my own car (a friends yeah [hihi] , but mine NO WAY!) Nice work my friend, Nice work!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Here are some more pictures:

You can see where one of the pieces of trim is missing in this picture:

I tried to get a close up of the paint here, but it didn't really work out with the reflection:

God that looks awesome, i was thinking about painting my e30 but i scared myself out of it
It's really not as bad as it seems. If you're willing to put alot of work into it a be meticulous, you don't really have much to worry about. Sanding is the biggest part, and it's pretty easy to fix mistakes there. Spraying is pretty easy too, you just can't rush it. Plus, if you get a run in the basecoat, you can always just let it dry and sand it out.

My brother did his E30 a couple years ago (trom red to blue). You can see some pictures of that here: http://www.pbase.com/briank/barrys

It is a good bonding experience. Part of the motivation for selling me the car was that my dad realized that working on a car together is a good way to do the father son thing my brother and he did the same thing with his car.

You have a hell of a dad! You should be as proud of him (he loves to spend time with you and teach/learn) as I know he is of you. This is a great thread. Great work and what a great experience with your dad. The car looks great! Good job....

Your dad sounds like a great guy. Not enough fathers out there that spend enough time with their children, much less take the time to teach trade that can/will be useful in life....

Thanks Dan, I never had that in my life and I envy (in a great way) the ones that do. I just want, which I am sure Justin does, him and others to know how special it really is. I would have loved to have that in my life while I was growing up and that kind of impression to look back on.....I love to hear stories like that.....

This is part of the reason I am not as technically inclined (computer/electronics not excluded) as I would like to be....

Yeah, I'm very grateful for what he does for me, even though I sometimes don't express it very well. [poke]

I'll take some more pictures soon.

Great Job Bro

JUSTIN,

I must say that I'm very impressed with your "new" car. It looks great! I'm excited to see it when I come home to see you guys in 2 weeks. I'm even more excited that you got some good quality time with dad. Isn't it cool, that's definitely what i remember most about my garage time with my E30.

I must also second that we have one awesome dad! Does an outstanding job pointing us toward our Dad above! I thank Jesus for him often!

Love ya bro!
-BARRY

(if you ever change your mind, the offer is still on the table. I'll pay you to paint my new Bimmer if you need some money sometime)

Yeah, I'm sure there is a bit of orange peel. The flat, horizontal surfaces were tough to get to, so the paint didn't go on as wet there as it should have. The sides were much easier and are overall pretty slick.
