Wow.. just wow. I'm glad your daughter is ok now...

...*sigh*

It reminds me of the accident my friend had a couple months back. His was in a rollover in his 3-er and none of the airbags deployed. They sent an investigator down from BMW to have it checked out. They ended up paying for all the repair cost of a the car instead of replacing it with a new car.

Wow - those pix tell a bad story that has a fairly good ending. They send chills down my spine. My daughter just passed her test 2 weeks ago. Some peace of mind is that she's driving a Volvo 740 with the Volvo "crumple zones". Looks like BMW uses a similiar design philosophy. The cockpit appears amazingly intact compared to the rest of the damage.
My kids will be LEGAL driving age in 14 1/2 years and I think I will let them drive when they hit 32. [rofl]

Of course when they hit 16 everyone is going to be like "who is that, your grandpa?" [bigcry]

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. It is very trying being a parent and trusting. My daughter is doing great. The plus side regarding the car is that I replaced the 2.8 with the M.

Bryan330i my suggestion - teach your kids driving responsibly at a young age - get them in a car early and they'll probably end up driving better when they’re older.

I’m not talking about driving down the road, I mean when they’re interest level gets there 14-15 (when they don’t realize it), take them to a large empty parking lot on a Sunday afternoon. You have to learn how to drive over a long period of time rather than 6 months and you’re on your own.

Dan, very relieved to hear your daughter is doing better.
Thanks. She has made superb improvement over three years. Still some minor short term memory issues, but research says it could be up to 10 years for 99% recovery. I would say she is 90% now.

I don't know whether to praise BMW for a great cockpit or scorn them for a possible sticky throttle. Somebody might have pulled the hand brake...and fled the hospital? Wow.

Glad to hear your daughter is getting better.

I would imagine she won't go near your new M?

Haha, she just asked last week if she could take it for a ride! I told her not no, but H*ll NO!

We have had some long serious discussions on the issue and I believe she knows that when her recovery is complete and after some more safety related driving lessons she will be ready for the experience.

Dan,

I am really happy that your daughter survived and is improving. Reading that first line made my heart drop and resurfaced some bad memories, but I’m so glad that things turned out for the better for you and your family. GOD BLESS.

Michael.

That is a true highway sign on US 12 North bound from Idaho to Lolo Pass Montana. It is a great trip with tons of sights.

Mine and my families thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Glad to hear of the "fairytale" recovery. Proof that miricles can still happen.
