nice choice dillinja, that, along with the A-10 Warthog (Tank killer) are my favorite flying machines (and im also a sucker for the F4 Phantom)

Can we be friends????? Those 2 are also my 2 favorites in the US military arsenal I love the A-10...watching those things fire that 30mm vulcan cannon is unbelievable....that is where it got the name warthog....when it fires, that is what it sounds like.

Hey Snowcrash, I flew out of Charleston too only on C-141s in the early 80's. I was at Charlie-towne from 80-85 then went to Altus to teach in the schoolhouse. Spent 20 years as a loadmaster on C-141s. Getting ready to retire in a few months. I guess 27 years is long enough. :) Take care and fly safe....load clear! Later, chieftd

120mm mortar - unknown unit in Iraq

[headbang]
That is at best an 80mm mortar, HE (High Explosive) blue color says that. The unit is one out of the 82nd Airborne Div (the patches) Just so you know...120mm+ mortars are vehicle based usually in an M113 conversion. The guy is on his toes because of the concussion...he is trying to maintain his balance. The range for those mortars is anywhere from 1/2 to 6 miles.

Seems to be about the only thing I am some what knowledgeable about...Artillery and Mortars. What a pathetic existence I have.

A hunting camel spider runs across the desert floor almost at lightning speed, and it is so fast that it is impossible for the human eye to follow. When it senses its prey, the camel spider chases after it until it is caught.

Snowcrash, I'm at Hickam at least for a few more months. I'm retiring in Oct, but staying in Hawaii. :) I'm good friends with your chief load at CHS both the one retiring and the one replacing him. Both are gtreat guys IMO. Charlie-towne was a fun assignment. It has changed so much since I was there, but nice location just the same. Altus is not that bad, its what you make of it. I was TDY there 4 times and stationed there for 3 years too. I used its slow pace to my advantage and went to school. Have fun and fly safe. Load clear! chieftd
