A hunting camel spider runs across the desert floor almost at lightning speed, and it is so fast that it is impossible for the human eye to follow. When it senses its prey, the camel spider chases after it until it is caught.

According to Urban Legends that is incorrect. Although they are fast they are not as fast as rumor has it, nor are they as large. I agree they are disgusting and I would run from one. Here is a link:

I dont know what urban legends is talking about but I will tell you from experience. Wind Scorpions or Camel Spiders, whichever you prefer to call them, do get large and ARE NOT harmless to humans. They are harmless in that they cannot poison you, but their bite is very painful. The have four offset "fangs/mandibles" That they use to incapacitate their prey. THEY DO NOT HAVE A POISON SAC.....that means they bite their prey to death! And from what I have seen they do move almost faster than the human I could follow. Ugliest insect on the planet. And they arent even real spiders!

I have no doubt that their bite would hurt, but most of the things said about them are false. Here are a bunch of links that all seem to agree that they are fast, maybe as fast as 10mph, but not 25 and they are no bigger than about 5 inches. Also the picture above is two camel spiders end to end.

Ok I didnt need the biology lesson! [whip] I know about the pic being two camel spiders end to end...and that they cant run 25mph.....if you read what I said you will see that I AM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE.....hmmm that means that I must have seen them before....I have seen them run and they are very, very fast....not like a little wolf spider running around your house fast either I mean like 3 to 4feet a sec fast...now whether or not they can keep up that pace is another question. But the ones I saw in Iraq and Saudi Arabia were fast although not that big. I have been to all of those sites you mentioned before...because of the human fascination with the most deadly and ugliest things on earth!!! [headbang]

So an arachnid that walks as fast as a human.....and that was a guesstimate. Wow...but the facts say 10mph vs. 3mph. So I guess that lil thing is waaaay faster than that....so I guess it is really 10ft per second? That is reallllllly fast right? LOL Anyway the ones I saw were pretty fast AND ugly as sin!

Well, actually that is a 120 mortar firing a 120 Full Range Training Round (as noted by the blue color). The HE is actually OD Green with yellow markings. The 82nd actually got it's first 120 back in 1991, they are trailer mounted and pulled with HMMWV's. Light units, to include the Ranger battalions employ the 120's, they are a great weapon. The guy is standing on the baseplate because that is the first round fired and the baseplate hasn't settled into the ground yet. We generally use two or three rounds to accomplish that. Sorry, but thought it would be good to know

Had A Rough Day????

This is how life is "down range" right now. So when we think we have it rough because we have to park at the end a parking lot and have to walk a little further, or miss the green light and have to wait a little longer and just feel inconvienenced....think of our Brothers and Sisters, Sons and Daughters, Aunts and Uncle, Friends and Loved ones that are in this SHIT Hole right now.
Peace Brothers and Sisters

Once I was working with a guy that was in the Air Force he was in a position to hassle Marines that were shipping things from Iraq. He would get people in trouble over trivial items like liquor and such. He also used to brag about how he would be on ship eating lobster while the Marines were eating MREs and crap. Well I got so sick of him that I posted those pictures all over the place titled “How did you sleep last night?” and the caption: You should be grateful. I wonder why he didn’t talk to me much afterward. [fake]

One of my favorite stories from a while ago...

SEC.STATE Colin Powell was approached by an Iraqi newspaper
reporter and accusingly asked, "Isn't it true that only 13 percent of young
Americans can locate Iraq on a map?"
Secretary Powell stopped, turned, and stated "Yes, it's true. But,
unfortunately for you, all 13 percent are United States Marines." [headbang]

GOD BLESS THEM! [pray]
